SUSTAINABILITY

The clothing industry has a huge negative impact on the environment, making up about 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions and 20% of industrial wastewater. While we need clothes, the clothing we choose does not need to have a negative impact on the environment. Textiles can be recycled and reused, fabrics can be made from recycled materials and cotton can be grown without harmful chemicals.

The responsibility for sustainable clothing is on both the consumer and the manufacturer. Companies, like us, have a responsibility to use sustainability sourced fabrics. Choose manufacturers that work to reduce waste and make choices throughout the production process that prioritise reducing environmental impact. As a consumer, you have the power to choose what brands you support and be aware of the impact the clothes you buy have on the world.

Design

We all lead busy lives and do lots of different things. And the fashion industry has convinced us that we need different outfits for each of these activities. Rapt thinks this is both impractical and wasteful.

When designing our clothes, we wanted to create pieces that can be worn in as many aspects of life as possible, both in aesthetics and practicality. To do this we chose versatile fabrics, opted to use embroidery for its longevity and quality, and tried to choose graphics that are appropriate in a range of settings.

Manufacturing

We work with ethical and sustainable manufacturers that have certifications and checks from multiple third party organisations dedicated to ensuring companies are as sustainable as they claim. If you want to do your own research, the brands we work with are Stanley/Stella, Salvage, and Vapor Apparel.

Fabric

We did a lot of research to choose fabric that is either recycled or produced sustainably and ethically. Our clothes are made from recycled plastic bottles, certified organic cotton, recycled cotton, and recycled polyester.

Packaging

We do not use any single-use plastic and all our packaging can be recycled. Our cardboard boxes and thank you cards are made from recycled paper and use water based ink.
